If you wish to grow any variety in the future
and require organic seed please ask as if it has the ability to
perform organically we will grow it for you. To ensure a supply
of organic seed of a particular variety you must first of all
establish that a seed grower is planning to grow that variety
and is growing sufficient to meet your requirements. You really
should buy next year’s seed before you plant this year’s!
Conservation Varieties
There may be small quantities of Organic conservation
variety ware available!
What does Organic mean?
Within the European Community the term “Organic”
has legal status and is applied to produce produced to laid down
standards that minimise or eliminate artificial chemical inputs
such as fertilisers and pesticides. Growers are also expected
to use organic seed when planting their crops. Until recently
growers could apply for a “derogation” to allow them
to use non-organic seed if no organic was available. Now it is
only in extreme situations that these derogations are granted.
The United Kingdom Register of Organic Food
Standards – UKROFS, applies the EC rules in the UK. The
Organic Sector Bodies licensed by UKROFS, such as the Soil Association
or the Scottish Organic Producers Association monitors the organic
status of members’ farms. All our growers are members of
either SA or SOPA. |
